C1890.

A finely modelled 19th century plaster cast of the Capitoline Antinous, inspired by the celebrated marble housed in the Capitoline Museums, Rome. This impressive Art school bust captures the serene expression and idealised beauty of Antinous, the deified companion of Roman Emperor Hadrian.

Sectionally cast in the neoclassical tradition, the sculpture features classical musculature, carefully rendered curls, and the slightly downward gaze characteristic of the original statue. This antique plaster cast sculpture was likely produced for academic or decorative purposes, reflecting the 19th century fascination with classical antiquity and the revival of Greco-Roman ideals. Origionally a full statue.

A striking decorative piece ideal for libraries, galleries, or interiors styled with neoclassical or Regency furniture. A rare and evocative survivor with genuine historical charm and surface patina consistent with age.

• 19th century academic cast

• Classical Roman subject – Antinous

• Original surface with aged texture and wear

• Ideal for collectors of Grand Tour antiques
