18th century, stone bust of Orpheus

A finely carved 18th century stone bust depicting Orpheus, the legendary musician and poet of Greek mythology. Shown crowned with laurel leaves and holding a lyre, the bust captures the classical elegance and romanticism typical of neoclassical sculpture. Orpheus, famed for enchanting all living things with his music, is an enduring symbol of artistic inspiration and tragic love.

This antique, Italian school bust is sculpted from natural stone with a weathered patina that enhances its historic character. The carving shows exquisite attention to detail, particularly in the flowing hair, serene expression, and intricate lyre. Mounted on a wooden base, it makes a striking decorative focal point for both traditional and eclectic interiors.

Ideal for collectors of antique sculpture, classical art, or Greek mythology. Perfect for display in libraries, studies, or entrance halls.
